Music video premiere: Fight On by Pat G (feat. Janis Nicole)

When our friends at The Loyalty Firm reached out about hot, upcoming local rapper Pat G. we took notice  because TLF’s founder, Ryan Cano is a respected booker in Austin and frankly we value his musical opinion. And he’s right most of the time. Cano hit the nail on the head with this banger of a song which features soul singer Janis Nicole on backing vocals turning the tune with an already wicked hook, into a soulful celebration. The track grabs the listener with the hook and puts ’em down for the count with Nicole’s buttery vocals sweetening the deal.

The fact that Pat G. brings a positive message and uplifting songs like this one is the icing on the cake. As Cano mentioned in an recent interview, Austin is having a moment with hip-hop, soul and R&B artists right now. This track is more evidence this scene is about to explode. There’s simply too much good, new music being made in this genre locally to ignore. You’ll have a hard time ignoring this artist too.  The youngster has it going on.  Cano compares his work to Gang Starr and Lupe Fiasco. He’s not wrong.

Despite his youth, Pat G.,  who attended Huston-Tillotson University in Austin has performed at Moto GP, Pecan Street Festival and Bloomin’ Temple Festival already. He has shared the stage with local music scene mainstays, Zeale and NGHT HCKLRS among others. If you’re not already a fan, we suspect you will be once you watch the video below. We’ve already spun the tune a half-dozen times this morning. Enjoy…

Oh, one more thing, it’s Pat G’s birthday. So if you’re into this track, head over to the man’s Bandcamp page and celebrate this artist’s birth in the best way we can think of, buy his track and share this page (please and thank you) on social media. Pat G’s new LP is entitled “Whatever It Takes” and will be released late Summer/early Fall this year. Fans will be able to pre-order via Bandcamp today.
