Cosmic Influence – The Cosmic Clash

I had a friend once ask me to write a music review for his blog.  He also told me to include a little about myself to give the piece more legitimacy. So here is an article years later about the making of the Mike Cosmic.

Music is something that I have obsessed about since I was a wee three year old playing Christmas and Cepillin records year round.  Growing up with young mom and aunt I was exposed to artist like the B52’s, ABBA, Nazareth, Kenny Rodgers and Kiss.  My dad would always try to show me bands like The Beatles, Loving Spoonful, Wings, Kansas, and Yes. I remember listening to late El Paso Radio DJ Steve Crosno on B94 FM playing New Order, Michael Jackson, Sade, Dead or Alive. Having Rockers for neighbors provided me with a different perspective by giving me tapes of Ozzy, Metallica, Testament, Motley Crue, Ratt. No matter where I got music from, if it was on my own or my best bud in middle school passing me tapes of the Beastie Boys, NWA, Eric B & Rakim, Public Enemy.  It was not until we got MTV when I discovered, Madonna, Bon Jovi, Guns N’ Roses, and Yo!MTV Raps.  I even  joined middle school band to further enlighten me.  It was not until the great awakening of the underground by Nirvana, Pearl Jam and all those early 90’s bands did I really take an interest and try to express my take on the whole thing.

I was lucky enough to be able to take part in what was a very cool music scene in El Paso. Even though sometimes it was bands watching other bands play, it was a true escape from the boringness that was happening in El Paso at the time. Bands like V.B.F. , Not  So Happy, Chinese Love Beads, NMS, JERK, Out Of Hand ,Rope,  Fla Flas Flunkies,  Sicteens, Faction X, Attempted Erns, Fixed Idea  and all those other bands everyone else was in at one time or another are my biggest music influence to this day. It must have been the rawness of the sounds being produced, even though it was pumped out through the shittiest Peave amps and cheapest guitars it was still fucking awesome.  So without further ado, here is a show that took place sometime in the mid 90’s and The Sicteens music video.

First video shows bands playing in Ernies parents’ garage featuring,  V.B.F. , Jerk, and Short Hate Temper.

The second video is a music video of The Sicteens.
